What does it take to be a Malaysian? What does it take to be any citizen of any country at all?
Citizenship is not just a ‘permit’ to live or stay around a certain part or border of the earth. It should be more than that. Citizenship is where you belong. The sense of belonging is important for any human being. A person who doesn’t belong anywhere usually is a troubled person and may end up crazy or depressed. Which would probably turned to be suicidal, serial killing or a lunatic who just want to tear everything apart including a peaceful country they supposedly belong to, and which they gain so much from.
The sense of belonging emerged from a blended feeling of acceptance, respect, comfort, love and care. For example, you belong to your home, your family and your neighborhood. Bearing this in mind, I would like to ask, do all citizens of Malaysia really believe that they belong to this country?
It’s exhausting to hear the cries of "Equal Rights!" everyday but at the same time reading the ads. that read "Chinese preferred" for jobs in companies dealing with local trading and "Chinese only" for a simple beauty salon job. And I’m sick of the hypocrisy in most companies who would rather hire an SPM leaver than a diploma holder as Executive, just because the SPM leaver is yellow and the diploma holder is chocolate in colour. Worse is, the SPM leaver cannot even speak the National Language nor the second language fluently which made me screamed through the phone because she couldn’t even answer my question or take a message!
Oh yeah, this doesn’t happen only once, it happens a lot of times to me, to my spouse and my friends. And there are also companies that would rather NOT promote anyone at all to a desperately needed Managerial post, just because the qualified ones for the post are not yellow.
Alright, but there are companies that put up ads like "Bumiputeras are encouraged to apply". And there are government agencies that employ mostly Bumis, so we are equal here, eh? Or are we? Now we can stop crying out for equal rights, can’t we? If you’d prefer a dumb yellow than a smart chocolate or vice-versa then it’s really up to you, right? Life still goes on with one group controls the economy and now pushing hard to control the politics and so fiercely willing to jeopardize everything in the process.
These are facts in Malaysia today. So, all Malaysians, if you really think that you are as open minded as the first world citizens, then act like one.
Let’s discuss this openly without the slightest attitude of pretentious, denial, prejudice, hypocrisy or bias. Don’t discuss this like some barbaric forumers in the Low Yat forum – don’t stoop down to their level of pure hatred and stupidity and don’t blame them for their insensitiveness, intolerance and ignorance of the fact that this is a colourful country. It’s not their fault if their upbringing and culture do not emphasize on those traits. Blame it on their family background and education system that spread us apart.
But then, these ‘Low-Yat-forum type of people’ are the ones who are doing or rather saying everything they can to keep the education system the way it is. They NEVER want to be in the same school with other colours. They have always and will always want to remain separated from other colours of Malaysia. They want to remain un-Malaysian but at the same time, they want Malaysia to embrace them unconditionally! Admit it or not, they do NOT want to be Malaysians, they just want Malaysia to be THEIRS! They want Malaysia to be redefined according to their liking.
Their fierce statement about ‘how much they belong’ to this country and wanted to be treated equally in everything and everyway are pure nonsense. They just want to be superior and challenge everything about Malaysia.
Whereas, a citizen of a country must first accept its National Principles:
Belief in God - If you believe in God you must know that you should be grateful to see where you are and how far your people have come throughout history. Unless, the God that you believe in doesn’t teach you about good behavior, respect, tolerance and gratefulness. Or maybe it’s your mother who doesn’t teach you these.
Loyalty to King and Country – I remember a day when it was YDP Agong’s Birthday, a yellow guy came up to me and asked, why are all the shops closed? I told him it’s YDP Agong’s Birthday, and he asked again, Who? What? I couldn’t stand trying to explain to him something like that…so I asked him are you Malaysian? And yes he was born in Malaysia!!
Supremacy and Constitution – Oh yeah? Don’t these people always challenge the supremacy and the constitution? They don’t accept any bit of it, do they? Unless of course, if it favours them.
The Rule of Law – - Whenever it favours them, then uphold the law! Whenever not, it’s conspiracy or pure bias.
Good Behaviour and Morality – This one is colour-blind. All colours seems to have lost all these traits now.
Now, if you want to be called Malaysians and be treated equally, you must first accept Malaysia by heart; accept its National Principles, its Sultans, accept that Islam is the official religion, that Bahasa Melayu is the National Language and that MALAYSIA IS NOT SINGAPORE!
Putting up other languages than the National Language or Second Language on signboards is so unnecessary. This is a proof that these people purposely and arrogantly challenging the whole fact about Malaysia. They just won’t accept what Malaysia is.
Worse is, these people could actually stoop so low and go beyond insanity by trying to manipulate and challenge history in their quest to redefine Malaysia.
You know, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IF YOUR GREAT GRANDPARENTS WERE IMMIGRANTS and worked in the mines or estates or doing business or simply carried shits from Malay houses. So what? You have come a long way now, and have reached farther than the others. You should either accept history as it is or go see a shrink. As I see it, the politicians were the ones who purposely made the word ‘immigrant’ seems so wrong just because they wanted to create havoc in order to try to redefine Malaysia. Haven’t you learned that that’s the only thing that our politicians know how to do – create havoc. Because they are lunatic that don’t belong here or anywhere else on earth.
Bottom line is, you just CANNOT belong to a place where you are not able to accept, respect, love, care and be comfortable in. If you don’t have these for Malaysia, don’t you dare call yourselves Malaysians. Go migrate somewhere else and perhaps one day your great grandchildren can change the history of that country and say that you were never an immigrant.
So, dear Malaysians, do not go around asking too much when you already have so much. Ignore the politicians who just want to be a hero by instilling hatred in their quest to redefine Malaysia. Malaysia needs no redefining, it just needs a better education system and of course more mature, sincere and wise politicians…And we too, have to be mature, sincere and wise if we really want to see a better Malaysia. If you are sincere in wanting to be equal and not ‘superior than thou’, you would find no reason at all in objecting a ‘united’ education system.
And, accepting Malaysia whole-heartedly doesn’t mean that you would turn into a Malay, if that is what you are so scared of.
Now, let there be rainbow in our schools. Allow yourselves to accept Malaysia as Malaysia, then only the day will come where all of us would be totally colour-blind. And somewhere over the rainbow then, there will be no more special privileges, no more prejudices, bias and no more suspicious towards one another.
